Pulte Homes – Pulte Homes is a national home builder founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1950 by Bill Pulte. Pulte builds single-family, active adult, town homes and condominiums under three main brands: Pulte Homes, Divosta Homes and Del Webb (active adult communities) and provides home financing for homebuyers under the Pulte Mortgage brand. On the New York Stock Exchange, Pulte Homes is traded as PHM; Pulte is a fortune 500 home builder. Centex Homes – Centex Homes, founded in 1950 in Dallas, Texas, is a national home builder with new home communities in 25 states across the nation. In April ’09, Centex Homes and Pulte Homes announced that Pulte Homes would acquire Centex Homes; the joint company would become America’s largest home builder. Beazer Homes moved up one place in the rankings even though they closed fewer homes than the 4,411 they did in 2009.

Founded in 1975 in Toronto, Canada, Ashton Woods Homes is a subsidiary of the Great Gulf Group of Companies and a top 100 U.S. home builder. Taylor Morrison Homes builds affordable homes, in all price ranges, in 15 markets throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Florida. Taylor Morrison was ranked #13 in 2009, but closed considerably less homes than the 3,347 they did in the previous year.
Toll Brothers – Luxury Home Builder, Toll Brothers, builds new luxury homes in 21 states throughout the U.S. The Toll Brother’s corporate office is located in Horsham, Pennsylvania. Toll Brothers (TOL) is a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange and has been building high-end luxury homes for more than 40 years. Toll Brothers jumped up two positions in the rankings, though the builder closed slightly fewer homes than the 2,965 closings in 2009.
Standard Pacific Homes – Standard Pacific Homes builds new homes in Arizona, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Texas, Colorado, Nevada and Florida. As one of the nation’s largest home builders, Standard Pacific Homes has delivered more than 103,000 homes to families across the United States. The home builder began building new homes in Southern California in 1965, and is now a public company headquartered in Irvine, CA, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SPF.
