I&#039;ve been doing something similar utilizing JavaScript to show near by schools, hospitals, golf courses, restaurants, spas, grocery stores, WalMarts etc. But it get&#039;s a little time consuming to maintain the lists of data. I think the future is behind the local search services that offer developers API, like Yelp. You can query their database and output any types of businesses in any location or neighborhood right on your own site. They have details description of businesses, addresses, phone numbers, some times photos and reviews. So, it makes things much more interesting.
