Is Wallpaper Making A Comeback?
If you’re looking for texture, if you’re looking for warmth, or if you’re looking for personality, wallpaper might just be the way you should go.
With smart fashionable patterns and textures selling for around $30 a roll, applying wallpaper can be about the same cost as a good paint job. Many decorators agree that investing in wallpaper in your home is a good idea. Wallpaper decorates a room without having to go out and by artwork, mirrors, etc., for your walls.
Many home owners are using wallpaper in over half the rooms in their home, adding earthy organic wallpaper such as an earth tone pattern with blades of straw in the kitchen or a cork pattern in a study. Wallpaper comes in many colors, patterns, and textures. The cost of putting up wallpaper in your home is higher than painting, but most feel the cost is worth the while, because of the overall improvement to the feel of the room.
When it comes to installing wallpaper in your home, unless you are good at following instructions and are an exceptionally patient person, you shouldn’t try it yourself. There are many DYI books on how to install wallpaper; however, if you don’t possess the qualities mentioned above, hire a professional to do the work. A professional will clean and prep your walls, which is very important, because any imperfection will show through the wallpaper.
Not all of us have the eye of a decorator when it comes to picking out our own wallpaper. A good suggestion is that you take home samples in order to find one that you like and reduce the risk that you wallpaper your home with a pattern, or color, that you don’t like in the long run.
You can start by putting up wallpaper in smaller areas like the hallway. If you absolutely have to have a particular pattern, but it is extremely costly, just hang it on one wall and paint the rest of the room. Remember that wallpaper goes naturally in the bathroom, where a vivid pattern will keep one’s attention off of the plumbing fixtures. You can always to with a more natural look of grass cloth, which adds a lot of warmth and texture to a room.
