West Valley City, near the Salt Lake City area, has some of the most affordable housing in years after the past couple of years of declining home prices. It’s a great time to look into purchasing an existing home, especially as the federal government’s home loan program is soon to phase out.
Homes in the area are going for an average price of around $167,000, a reduction of 12% since 2007. First time home buyers will not only be able to use federal monies to purchase these homes, but they also qualify for the 5% mortgage rates the state of Utah presently has for them. Many families in 2009 qualified for both loans, and West Valley City was third in the state for residents who qualified at 59.
It’s not only pre-existing homes that are being sold. New homes are also being purchased at lower prices, coming in around $200,000 for single family homes.

Well I Live in West Jordan 2 miles from West Valley, but all the homes I am seing are in the 250 and up range. I have already been pre-qualified for about 190 thousand. If you find any good listing please send them to me.
Hate to say this Chuck, but you must not be trying. I did a quick Google search and found lots of home under $160,000, and I also found at least 25 homes under that $250,000 you mentioned as well. I don’t know the area well enough to be able to tell you which area of West Valley has these homes, but a number of them are between W 3600 and W 5200, if that helps.
