The Utah Housing Corporation is a Utah government agency that was created to help its residents purchase homes they could afford by offering special programs to help both first time and low income home buyers get the house they want. A program which was rolled out in January offers first time home buyers the opportunity to lock in their interest rates at 4.99%, on top of using the federal government’s $8,000 Federal Tax Credit, which ends in April.
Although the UHC was created by the state, it was created as a public institution, which means it’s self sustaining and receives no money from the state. What it does instead of works with banks throughout the state, home builders and realtors to find ways to help people get homes. Through these entities, they’re able to offer bonds, lending, income tax shelters and of course low interest rate loans. They’ll even help with closing costs through a program called Equity Now.
It’s a very unique agency that any potential first time homeowners who might need some assistance should contact. It’s located in West Valley City, but offers assistance to homeowners throughout the state.
