Salt Lake City is the largest city in the state of Utah with around 190,000 residents. Although it has the largest Mormon population of any large city in the country, it’s much more than that. It sits between the Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountain Ranges, with the Jordan River running through the city. It offers four distinct seasons, rarely has severe weather other than some snow, offers up three high schools and 28 elementary and secondary schools, has the main campus of the University of Utah, and a housing market that’s recovering nicely along with the median home price of $215,000.

The Great Salt Lake is one of the attractions that brings people to the city, but other than looking good has very little anyone can do there. Because of the salt is no fish that live in the lake, which means there’s very little life except for a few small seafaring animals, but people can swim as there is Bridger Bay Beach. However, the surrounding area makes for great exploring for those who like to seek a little bit of adventure.

It’s easy to get around the city as the road system is well maintained. There is also a bus system and a light rail system, and cycling is encouraged as Salt Lake City has been named one of the top 18 cities for that in the country. It’s also known as a very friendly city that has one of the most beautiful views in the world, and early in 2012 it was named as the most friendly city towards gay people in America.

It hosts the only professional sports team in the state, that being the Utah Jazz basketball team, but has multiple minor league teams in many sports. When you’re looking for something a little different the city also hosts the Salt Lake City Marathon and the annual Utah Arts Festival. There’s also the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Church History Museum, the Utah Museum of Natural History, the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, and the Gateway District, which has hundreds of restaurants and stores, residential properties, and office buildings.

Being a Mormon city, it has some unique attractions based on that which include the LDS Church, Temple Square, the Family History Library, and the Tabernacle, which is home to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There are also plans to create a $1.5 billion plaza for shopping, restaurants, and a couple of religious buildings.

People who are looking for a simpler way of life in a large city that has plenty to offer should consider Salt Lake City as one of those places on their menu to take a look at.
