Sienna Plantation has certainly been getting a lot of attention lately. First it makes Money Magazine’s Top 100 Places To Live list, coming in at #21. Then it makes CNN Money’s list of the Most Unusual Planned Communities in the country. Now it’s our turn.
What makes this place so special is that it’s built on 10,500 acres of what used to be an actual plantation in the Houston area. It’s in the community of Missouri City, and was originally a plantation that grew sugar cane and cotton. It’s grown into an area with more than 20,000 homes and 70,000 residents, a civic association, a homeowners association, golf courses, community parks, and a community services foundation. Recently they announced that they’re planning on spending $100 million towards education in the community.
The community has many neighborhoods to buy existing homes and build new homes in. Their newest is called The Trails at Shipmans, which includes a manmade lake with a fountain, a fitness center, a pool and a picnic pavilion. Home prices will start around $240,000 and go up from there, allowing multiple styles of living.
