Housing Fair In Hillsboro

About a month ago we wrote about special deals for homeowners based on money that was being given to some cities to help spur their housing markets.

This Saturday in Hillsboro, they’re having what they’re calling a Housing Fair, where there will be lenders, home-builders and city representatives to give information and to try to encourage people who qualify to purchase either new or existing homes. This comes via a grant of $300,000 from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

What’s up for grabs is the possibility of qualifying for a grant of up to $20,000 for 14 low to moderate income individuals or families. It’s a a 10-year forgivable loan, which means if the homeowners stay in the home at least 10 years, they don’t have to pay anything back.

Of course there are income requirements one has to be under, but with the federal tax credits about to run out, it’s a nice way to encourage potential homebuyers who didn’t think the tax break was enough to help them get a home to start thinking about the prospect.
