General State Information

North Carolina was one of the first settled colonies and was the last state to succeed from the union in 1861.The state capital Raleigh has a population of 359,332 people which is about 25% of the total population of the state 9,061,032. In 1795, North Carolina opened the first public university in the United States, now known for its basketball the University of North Carolina. Climate

The climate in North Carolina varies because of the different elevations in the state. There are three different geographic regions in the state.
