Everyone seems to be big on beige, no matter what part of the country you live in. Neutral beige still remains the most popular color choice among Home Depot shoppers. Even on the East Coast, Navajo White dominates this category. However, individuals are now starting to demand more form their beiges. They’re looking for a beige paint that can give them longevity, and still look nice with other colors. Because of this, beiges are now more complex; they are now being made with undertones in pink, gold and brown that can help create certain moods depending on the lighting of the room.

Neutrals
Greens and grays are still considered to be the new neutrals, but grays are getting darker and browns are starting to get lighter. It’s no surprise that we are fond of neutral colors. Neutral colors rarely create an immediate emotional response and they tend to help ground you. That’s a good thing right now; we all need to feel a little better grounded with the stress created by the current economy.

Ceilings
White isn’t the only color we see on our ceilings now. Individuals are starting to treat their ceilings like another wall. Homeowners are starting to realize that painting their ceilings can often create a cozier feel in the home. This is important to those that aren’t moving and want to change the feel of their home.

Impact
The color of the paint you choose is very important. You need to consider the psychological, emotional and physical impact of the color you choose. For instance, you should never paint a kitchen red; red is an emotional color that can make you feel hungry. Red signals rapid change, raw emotion, passion and issues of control and fear. Instead, you should paint your kitchens in earth tones and neutrals that give off a more grounded feel.

Trends
Recently, blues and greens are a dominating choice for consumers. Individuals want lighter, brighter colors. These blues and green are often being combined to create a lot of turquoise-like colors to give a fresher feel. We are also seeing a lot of light shades of pink, earthy colors in deep, warm tones, and many deep yellow shades are replacing the reds.
