4 Things You Want In An Illinois House

Illinois is a state with a lot of diversity in everything. That includes its housing. Something that homeowners in Illinois has to contend with are the different weather patterns that hit the state in both winter and summer. Therefore, when you’re ready to buy a home in the state, no matter where it is, you want to make sure that you’ve thought about these 4 things.

1. It the house weather-proofed? How well does the house handle extreme cold in the winter? How well is it ventilated for the summer? What are the windows like if the winds get too high? What’s the insulation like? You’ll obviously want an inspector to take a look at the house, but there are things homebuyers should notice depending on which area of the state they’re looking to buy a home in.

2. Does the house have central air? Whether you’re looking to heat or cool your home, central air is the most economical way to go, and the quickest as well. Having to do into each individual room and turn on a heater or air conditioning is how things used to be done in the past, but these days it doesn’t make sense to do it that way.

3. Are there depressions in the yard that are obvious? This is something many people don’t pay attention to, but if the house has a basement this is the type of thing where water can pool during heavy periods of rain and possibly leak into the basement. You might want to check the basement to see if there are water spots on the walls, because this would be a true indication that you might have flooding problems on the way.

4. How sturdy does the foundation seem? Unfortunately, Illinois, being in the Midwest, does have a lot of tornadoes and bad weather that can create tornado-like storms. Although no home can ever be totally tornado proof, you want to make sure that your home has at least a fighting chance, or a place where you can hide in an emergency that might help save your life.
