ATLANTA OVERVIEW:
Atlanta is known as one of the friendliest cities in the United States, which probably explains why it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. It’s the largest city in Georgia with a population of around 500,000, and a metropolitan area of around 5 million people. And for a city that has the 15th largest economy in the world, it’s one of the most affordable housing markets in the country, with median home costs around $103,000.

HISTORY:
Atlanta has a long history in this country and is definitely a contradiction upon itself. Whereas it was one of the major voices of slavery and segregation during the Civil War, it is also a leader in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and you’re introduced to its amazing history as soon as you start walking through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It’s a great city that also promotes ecological standards that rank it one of the top cities in the world for its carbon blueprint.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
If you’re coming to Atlanta you want to know about many of the sites and activities you can partake in. Known as the city that hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics, Atlanta has professional sports teams in all four major sports and is also home to the college of Georgia Tech, and all have proven that this is a city of champions. It’s the world headquarters of CNN News, and has multiple museums around town that visitors can enjoy such as the High Museum of Art, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and the Margaret Mitchell House.

We mentioned Georgia Tech and athletics, but the city of Atlanta and its surrounding area has more than 35 universities and colleges with vocations in anything you or your family members might be interested in. Emory University is one of the top 20 universities in the country for liberal arts, and the city is known for having multiple and well known historically black colleges. There’s also over 100 schools serving over 55,000 school aged children throughout the city.

It’s home to a variety of music and entertainment venues such as the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Woodruff Arts Center, and the Alliance Theatre. It hosts a number of festivals such as the Atlanta Film Festival and the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, which is a major nine day arts and crafts festival. There’s also a thriving nightlife which includes many clubs offering blues, jazz, and dance music.

Finally, Atlanta is a city that’s easy to get around. It has a transit system called the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and a subway system. Because of its eco-friendliness, cycling has become one of the most popular methods for getting around the city. There’s plenty of shopping and restaurants to enjoy, a zoo, and World of Coca-Cola, where you can actually taste multiple versions of one of the world’s favorite sodas.

Forget being one of the top cities in the south; Atlanta is one of the top cities in the world, and is a family-friendly place to live.
