Add space to your home with a pocket door

doorCountless space has become dead zones within your home due to the amount of space that traditional doors need to swing open and closed. Spaces such as; dining rooms, dens and kitchen entries have been limited because of this problem. Replacing just a couple of your existing doors for pocket doors will reopen 8 to 10 square feet per door of space that was otherwise lost.

Pocket doors have been around for a long time. Mostly used in nautical themed homes and motor homes this space saving idea is now making its way into traditional homes. In addition to opening up prior unusable space, manufactures have made a point to create a wide variety of styles available. Pocket doors come in any stain or color that you can think of. Other features include glass inserts that include personal etching or even stained glass options. Pocket doors are even being used as entry points from the outside of your home. Using pocket doors allow you to open up your home to the outside without having to jam open traditional doors. The clean lines that pocket doors create open a space up completely.

One of the main concerns that come with pocket doors is that fact that the door itself must be able to slide into a pocket within the wall. This can be a problem when trying to install a door into an existing home. Obstructions such as electrical wires and plumbing may prohibit a pocket from being created. Manufactures have created hardware that installs on the exterior of the wall and allows the pocket door to glide on rails preventing the need to create a pocket within the wall.

In either case of installation whether you install the door within the wall or on an exterior glide rail system, manufactures guarantee weather tight seals. Other privacy and security considerations have been integrated into all of the models available.
