5 Reasons To Buy A House In California Now

There’s a lot of gloom and doom when it comes to talking about the California housing market. In reality, at least half of the state has already affected a turnaround, and a few other places in the state never took a hit at all. And, strange as it may seem, some bad news could be good news for the right buyers. Here are 5 reasons to buy a house in California now.

1. Lots of properties to choose from. You’ve heard a lot of bad news about foreclosures. Even though some banks are withholding putting all homes on the market to try to keep prices up, there are a lot of banks that have assumed other banks, and thus have released those homes for sale to try to get some earnings out of them. Home prices in some areas have dropped as much as 33%. Though prices could get lower, it’s still a good time to give it a shot.

2. Mortgage interest rates are very low. Forget about that 4.5% you’ve been hearing about. Some banks are actually offering interest rates at low as 3.75%! You’ll have to shop around to find that, but the difference in mortgage payments alone is not only a good enough reason to be looking for a new house, but you could possibly afford a better house at a rate like that.

3. The state’s own tax credit. Did you remember that California is presently giving home buyers a $10,000 tax credit, which is higher than the one the federal government was giving? It could go away at the end of the year, or it could be extended, but why take chances?

4. The state just got $700 billion from the federal government to help both homeowners and home buyers. There could be even more incentives for first time home owners to go looking.

5. Some home builders are working with the federal government to find ways to help even more homeowners buy homes. Ryland Homes was working with the FHA on such a program, and other home builders might tag alone. The more options there are for helping home owners, the more reasons there are to at least start looking at the possibility of owning your own home in California.
