I agree with most of the commentators that wallpapers can be a turn off, especially if they have a weird design on them or a weird pattern. I’ve seen some really gorgeous homes with really crappy wallpapers; however, I do think if the wallpaper is textured and not overly patterned, it can look good.

I am going to have to agree about the dangers of putting up wallpaper. It can be tastefully done, but 9 time out of 10 it is far too personal and can have the opposite of the desired effect. More often than not, I tell people to take down wallpaper.

You have got to be kidding me! Nothing will date a house quicker than wallpaper. Anyone who has ever survived the tedious, time consuming task removing wallpaper and repairing the resultant sheetrock damage would never place wallpaper on a wall again in their life.

It is much easier for my clients to apply a fresh coat of paint and increase the marketability of their home than deal with a wallpaper fiasco. If you want to see a buyer run out of a house, just show them an awesome house with wallpaper covering the walls.

As a real estate agent, when trying to sell a home, the first thing I tell my sellers is to de-personify the home. Meaning take all of your personal “crap” and put it in storage. Wall paper is a huge turn off to a potential home buyer, but they do know it can be removed rather easily, so it’s really not that big of a deal. Great post!

My English clients like wallpapers. Example, with beautiful wallpapers in the dinning room and in the living room with nice matching furniture’s can instead increase the value of the house. So wallpapers, don’t need to be negative in selling view.

Assuming you are starting with a painted wall, it is easier to repaint a wall than it is to remove/redo wallpaper later on. So, if your the type of person who likes to change looks every couple years, or are planning to sell in the near future, stick with paint. It is generally also easier to paint than it is to wallpaper.
