Upgrade Your Bathroom For Under $500

redbathNot every has thousands of dollars to renovate their bathrooms. If you need extensive repair work done, you’re pretty much stuck with having to pay a pretty penny to get it done. For everyone else, though, you could spend less than $500 and have your bathroom take on the appearance of being totally redone.

Here are 5 simple ways you can redecorate your bathroom for cheap.

1. Change the toilet. The toilet is really the focal point of every bathroom. Everyone has to use the bathroom at some point, right? Most new toilets will cost less than $200, though some higher quality toilets will cost you a lot more. It turns out it doesn’t take a lot of skill to replace one. Also, nothing says your toilet has to be white; they come in a host of colors these days, and you can decide to either get one to match your walls, if your walls aren’t white, or a color that will totally set it apart from everything else.

2. Repaint or re-stain your cabinets. Paint and stain are pretty inexpensive, and the only real effort in this kind of work is stripping whatever was on there before, if that has to be done. Once again, your cabinets can take on any color of stain or paint that you want and can be made to look brand new. While you’re at it, think about changing the knobs to something shinier and uniform.

3. While we’re at it, think about painting your bathroom walls. Once again, paint is inexpensive, and for most bathrooms, one can of paint is all you’ll need. If you have tile along a portion of your bathroom, nothing says the paint has to be the same color at all. With this one and the other two, it’s probably best to think about your color scheme before you begin.

4. If you have shower curtains, get new ones. Think about adding an extra layer by adding a terry cloth outer layer, because it brings a warm and more inviting feeling to a bathroom than plastic does.

5. If you don’t already have a rug in the bathroom, think about adding a throw rug of some kind. You can put it either in front of the toilet, bathtub, or bathroom sink. You can get them in many stores for less than $50 in a variety of colors.

Sometimes, all it takes are a few cosmetic touches to make a room look like an expensive overhaul.
