Trulia’s “American Dream” Survey

According to a recent Harris poll commissioned and released by Trulia, 31 percent of surveyed renters intend to buy a home within two years.

More than quarter of respondents optimistic about the housing market

Millenials more optimistic about 2013 housing prices and mortgage rates.

The online interactive survey of 2,083 adults living in the United States was conducted between November 15th and 19th. A little more than a quarter of respondents reported feeling better about the housing market than they did in the prior six months.

Millennials (aged 18-34) reported home ownership as part of their “personal American Dream” in the same proportion as other respondents (72%). Millennials, however, were more optimistic than older respondents about 2013 housing prices and mortgage rates. Many Millennials (43%), per Trulia, already own homes.

The market has had a 43 percent reduction in housing inventory since 2010, but inventory could substantially increase as increasing prices motivate existing homeowners to sell.

This Harris survey has been conducted annually since 2009.
