There are many home builders who choose timber over masonry to construct their new homes. In many areas of the country, there are both pros and cons to building timber framed houses. For example, in wet climatic areas, timber has a greater potential to become moist and rotted, while in dry regions, timber framed houses can attract termites; in both cases, causing structural damage. Typically, when properly protecting and treating wood, this will prevent moisture damage, and regularly using pesticide will keep the termites at bay. Benefits of timber framed homes are that wood is less expensive and easier to work with, allowing builders to frame a house much quicker than using brick or other masonry, which reduces costs and selling prices.

Another good thing about timber is that they have that natural appeal which masonry lacks. I don’t know if it’s just my preference but that’s how I see it.
By the way, I love that timber frame home in Chandler.
You have to look long and hard to find any homes in San Diego that are not timber frame. The climate in Southern California is ideal for timber frame construction. Yes, termites are an issue, but regular preventative maintenance and inspections minimize the termite problem.

I would think most older homes, and some newer homes are built with timber frames? The loyola home is built by Shea Homes ,and looks very nice, and is located in arizona. Some of the older homes in arizona on the rez etc were adobe homes, and built by clay.

Although timber framed houses are inexpensive,easy to build and need less time to construct, it has some problem like in rainy season it become moist and rotted.also in hot condition termites can attack on it. So in both condition timber may damage. So we need to give some serious attention in wooden construction.
I have seen the Loyola home pictured here in person. I thought it was pretty unique and my impression was that it was well built.
