Green is “in” these days, builders are building green homes and energy efficiency is on every buyers mind; it’s easy to understand why. Who wants to mess with Al Gore, or gamble with rising energy costs and melting icebergs? Not me…
Here you go all you energy conscious home buyers, a master list of green home builders with direct links to a page on their website where you can find all the details about their green homes and communities. The builders below construct homes that save energy, leave smaller carbon footprints and cost less to own.
As with any of our resources, we need your help to make this list better, so if you know a builder that didn’t make the list, let us know. Just be sure they build energy efficient homes and can prove it, which means we need a link to the page on their website with details about their green building practices. We can’t expect home buyers to take our word for it.

Thanks for sharing this list. It’s good to see so many national builders going green and even a few from my state. Hopefully more get on board.
Thanks for the list. I will bookmark this for reference.

A good friend of mine used Eslinger Homes (www.eslingerhomes.com) down in Florida and had a good experience with them. Their website looks horrible but the work was good.

Let’s hope that these experts will share their knowledge with us so that those — like myself — who can’t afford an expensive contractor will be able to build green too.

@DIY Home Center – Thanks we added them to the list!
This is fantastic. Going keep hold of this because I know my wife has been looking for a list like this for a few months now since we’ve been wanting to move. She’ll be well pleased.

Thanks for compiling this list. Its quite interesting to see what is happening in the NV market and who are the key players when it comes to Green Homes.

@Matt – it is good news; I’m sure more builders will jump on board.
@Daniel – I’ll hold you to that bookmark
@Gina – visit some of their websites, many of them have a lot of great information that I’m positive you’ll find beneficial
@Doug – I’m glad it could help you and your wife out. Hopefully, it keeps growing as it’s far from a complete list.
@Mack – thanks for stopping by, we did a post last week about Energy Plus Homes (in Nevada) and quite a bit of builders are doing their part.
Going green has arrived! I think people can see it saves money and is the right thing to do. A lot of the retirement communities are on board and this makes it attractive to boomers who don’t want to keep the cost of living down in future years.
Thanks for the list. I will keep these builders in mind for my beloved “tree hugger” clients.

Another useful list Jayson! I’m now wondering what your next list would be…
Actually, I hope this list would be obsolete in the coming years ,or after a decade to be more realistic, since all home builders would have gone green by that time. But for now, this would have to do =)
@Eddie – I’m sure it will be. Home builders have been very proactive in recent years when it comes to green building. If there’s a demand for it, builders will work to meet the demand.
Green home builders….If you ask me this term is being over used. I hear it whenever a builder offers the ability to add solar panels. Green building has a lot more to it than just simply being more energy efficient. It also includes the types of materials used and building practices. Taking into account all these things how long is that list in reality?
James Wheelock@Houston Neighborhoods´s last blog ..Montrose Neighborhood Introduction
@James – it would probably be a tad bit shorter, but most of these builders do use greener materials and building practices. Some of the things builders do are truly impressive, and other builders, as you hinted at, just use the term to help sell a home. These builders really don’t offer much more than a few energy efficient appliances.
It is a tad bit over used, we like to write about green building a lot so we get some of the blame too!
I think going green is going to be a necessity for new home builders. After all, why would you buy a home that will cost you more money to live in when there are so many alternatives just as nice if not more, that will cost you a lot less?

And that applies to renters, too. People renting old uninsulated houses or apartments get quite a shock when the heating bills arrive, and so the owners of energy efficient houses and apartments have a real advantage when it comes to getting and keeping tenants.
