Green Builders announced recently that four new environmentally friendly homes are now under construction at Rutherford West – a “earth-friendly” community. The homes are designed to conserve energy and water, through the use of eco-friendly appliances and fixtures. Furthermore the materials used are considered to be less harmful to the environment. So what makes a home green? Let’s take a look…

Awnings will be installed to create more shade and prevent heat from the sun entering into the home. State of the art foam installation designed to prevent warm air from entering and cold air from escaping. Energy saving shingles will be installed that are used to decrease the rooftop’s temperature. Optional solar panels can be installed, which can greatly reduce energy bills. To help conserve water, rain gutters will collect and recycle rainwater and the home’s sprinkler system is equipped with a rain sensor and drip system to control water usage. Inside the home, low volatile organic compound paints are used and compact fluorescent lights are installed throughout. In addition, the appliances, fixtures, and the homes themselves are Energy Star certified.
