Recently, national builder, KB Homes, announced that they’ll start offering, as an option, pre-wired garages ready for electrical car charging stations. These new homes are a part of their Built to Order ™ series of homes and represent one more earth-friendly option buyers have when looking for a new home. The option is now available nationwide and will make it easier for homeowners with electric cars to install an electrical car charging station and charge their vehicle.
The move by KB Homes to offer this as an option for homebuyers is a huge step in the right direction for electric vehicles. “It is critical for the mass adoption of electric vehicles to have companies like KB Home leading the industry by offering this pre-wire option,” said Matt Mattila, Project Manager for Project Get Ready. It offers a viable solution for electric vehicle owners looking for a more convenient way to own an electric car.
Jeffrey Mezger, President and Chief Executive Officer of KB Home said “This is just one of many innovative and earth-friendly options that homeowners can choose from as part of KB Home’s Built to Order ™ experience. It’s a great feature for homebuyers who currently drive electric cars, or for those who want to build their new home to accommodate these cars in the future.” KB Homes already builds every new home to ENERGY STAR ® guidelines and offers home buyers the ability to conserve natural resources and save on utility bills by choosing options from their My Home. My Earth. ® program.

I was watching Top Gear the other night (a UK car TV Show) and they had a new electric car, I cant remember what it was called but it went 0 – 60 in less than 5 seconds but the top speed was only 120, they were test driving it around Monaco, this car was worth £250,000 bit pricey but if I had the money I would have one!!!
So good to see developers turning to a more eco-friendly approach. It shows that both companies and consumers are going green more often – even in the details.
WOW! Great news. I am going to look at the areas where KB Homes is building new homes.I will love to see those eco-friendly built homes. I am also thinking about getting an electric car, and this will be a plus point to get a home with a pre-wired garage ready for electrical car charging stations.
It would be nice if everyone should have an Eco-friendly ideas. The developer should consider having products which can help to preserve and protect our mother nature.
this is a good news for ECO cars
I saw a doco a few months ago on this, very impressive. Just makes you wonder where’ll we’ll be with techology in 50 years!
It’s great now everyone is thinking of go green. This is what the need of Cars for Environment protection thanks for sharing this post.
It would be nice on information.it is helpful to environment.i like such eco-friendly ideas. You have the option of using 100% clean, renewable energy instead of dirty energy. You can even make kilowatt hours from the sunshine falling on your roof that will run your
house and car
Do you know what the approximate cost of this is? As I am always trying to keep it eco-friendly, I do have a budget
Thanks
Amy
Doubt this will ever become a big hit, its November now and its not huge.
Hopefully such initiatives will work out, but like Amy I’d also like to know the cost
It’s very nice to know that home developers are having this kind of innovation. It’s a great help to electric car owners and for those who are planning to build their new home to have their own charging station.
Well, KB home constructors are doing a fantastic job beyond constructing long lasting homes. Having pre-wired garage in homes is of course a new budding thought and electric car owners would be damn happy after hearing this news. Wishing KB home services loads of thanks for their gripping ideas on home construction! Thanks for your enlightenment too!
as Clarkson says you cant travel more than 100 miles until you need to charge these cars up for 24 hours again.. it would take about a week to do 300 miles!
As a budding technology I am sure the recharging times will come down, remember when mobile phones came out…
The batteries were HUGE… now you can get a booster charger that will give you charge in a few seconds…
Technology will provail.
im glad to see that electric cars are becoming more popular. i hope to see the day that every home has an electric car hookup
