Hi NewHomesGuy,
How much more expensive is building a new home rather then purchasing an already built one, assuming they both have same number of bedrooms, bathrooms etc…
Thanks,
Sarah.
Sarah – good question! I think you are asking if it’s less expensive to buy an existing or resale home instead of purchasing a new, never lived in home.
There is no accurate answer to your question, in my opinion. There are just so many factors that play into the scenario e.g. is the home a foreclosure, short sale, spec home, model home, is the family eager to move etc..
In today’s market, in some cases, some home builders are taking a loss (large incentives and price cuts) on homes making new homes more affordable than existing homes. However, you can find a great deal on resale homes too – it all just depends on the situation.
I’d say that as a general rule, it is not more expensive to build a new home.
We tried to sell our house for two years in a row (2007 – 2008) and finally had to pull it off the market and stay put (for a while) because we could not compete with the new homes being built at the time.
What are the benefits of purchasing an older (10yr) home, over a new one?
