The GE ecomagination Homebuilder Program is a program dedicated to providing homeowners with homes that are both comfortable and energy efficient. The program helps produce houses that reduce the negative impacts a new home has on the environment and is one more initiative from the housing industry that plays a role in reducing the amount of natural resources homes consume.
The ecomagination Homebuilder Program uses advanced building technologies and ecomagination and Energy Star qualified products such as:
- Refrigerator with ClimateKeeper2 technology – two evaporators creates two zones of air circulation, 1 for the freezer and one for fresh food.
- Dishwasher with SmartDispense technology – detergent is automatically dispensed based on a home’s water hardness; each wash gets just the right amount
- Frontload washer with HydraMotion technology – washer uses less water and can move both clockwise and counterclockwise, which provides a more detailed wash
- Advanced lighting package with Energy Smart bulbs – use up to 75% less energy and last up to 10 times as long

According to GE’s web page that annonces the ecomagination Homebuilder Program, the cost of natural gas has increased 42% in the last two years and the cost of electricity has increased 17% in the last two years.
Homes built to ecomagination standards will…
- Decrease water consumption, energy use and emissions in a home by 20% – this can save homeowners as much as $1500 on their annual energy bills
- Provide more energy efficiency than homes built according to the minimum levels of ENERGY STAR qualified homes
- Deliver improved air quality
- Feature high efficiency GE appliances
