Beazer Homes USA, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, one of the top 10 home builders in the country, has had a very nice November.
The first bit of news is that they showed a profit on lower than average revenue for their 4th quarter, which ended on September 30th. The net income was around $33.8 million, which was up 84 cents a share, but the company lost over $376 million for the year, so they’ll take the positive numbers as a sign that things are turning around. They even showed an increase in new home orders of 2.4%.
On the heels of that announcement, they released a press release stating that they had been selected by Healthstone, a major real estate investor in residential development, to build 462 homes in six communities throughout the Atlanta area. Beazer Homes will manage all aspects of the construction, sales and marketing, and the prices for the homes will run between $100,000 and $300,000 each. They will include both townhomes and single family residences. Those communities are: Westchase Commons and The Lakes at Sugarloaf in Gwinnett County; The Gates at John’s Creek in Fulton County; Thorngate and Olde Union Preserve in Forsyth County; and Cobblestone Creek in Cobb County.
In the press release, Kevin Clark, president of Beazer’s Atlanta Division, stated that Beazer will be meeting with existing homeowners in these communities to share plans for the construction of the new homes. “Our goal is to keep the current residents apprised of our plans throughout the process,” said Clark. “Empty or undeveloped lots have become a cause for concern for some of these residents and we want to assure them that Beazer Homes and Hearthstone have a plan and the resources to complete the build out of their community.”
Beazer Homes has built houses in 17 states across the country, while Hearthstone has invested in real estate in 25 states, financing more than 450 communities and 90,000 homes overall.

It’s good to see a local builder turning the corner on this terrible market. Hopefully things will continue to improve both for builders and agents!
This is a positive sign for the housing industry. Once the large builders start increasing productivity, it will trickle down to the subcontractors, appraisers, home inspectors and agents.
