I’m glad that architects and contractors are beginning to make the shift to utilizing “greener”, sustainable materials. Sure they are a little more expensive right now, but it’s a decent trade off. And, ya know, I’m not sure if these materials played any role in how the building looks, but it certainly is a break from the norm. Very, very organic in form. Personally I am a big fan. But then again I don’t live in downtown Chicago and have to look at it everyday.

Chicago is in my backyard and it’s loaded with unique architecture. This buildings adds to the mix of the already diversified collection of architecture. If you have not been to Chicago, schedule a summer trip. You won’t be sorry. The new Trump building is also pretty cool. Thanks for posting this.

Unfortunately despite the intriguing design, the developer does not have a stellar reputation (ripoff reports has numerous complaints about Magellan). It seems the Aqua was built with the fitness center not being owned by the condo owners, but rather is owned by the developer who rents it and other common areas back to the condo owners. Between all the rental units, the failed hotel (which at last reading was going to be a low end Radisson brand), etc- FHA loans aren’t being approved and people can’t get financing. Add to that the rat problem on the Field Drive level brought up at an Alderman meeting recently and I’d say there’s a reason the top condo section of the Aqua looks so dark at night.
