When most of us think California real estate we imagine some of the most expensive and exclusive homes on earth. After all, California is home to the Beverly Hills Hearst Mansion, which was listed at $165 million in 2007 and Aaron Spelling’s Manor, which sold for $130 million in ’06, but these homes represent only a small portion of housing in California. In areas like Victorville, Adelanto, Kings County and Coachella, buyers can find quality homes at affordable prices – homes priced from the $100s can be found all over California.

I wonder which areas had the biggest drop in home values and which areas had the least drop.
It’s amazing how builders have adjusted housing prices. I wonder how much they’ve taken out of the houses to get to this price — or were prices so inflated that they didn’t have to take out much?
I would venture to say that since most of the California market was over inflated like Seattle Architect noted, the room to maneuver prices was broad. This coupled with some incentives or exclusions would probably bring the housing prices into reach for many home buyers.

Very true! I think most people who aren’t from California have something of a false idea of what it’s like here. Most of central California (the better part of the entire state) is very much like the rest of the country – average suburbs, with the benefit of the beautiful weather and surroundings, of course. Great rundown of some lesser known areas that deserve a mention.
