Pest Problem? No Problem with These Infestation Prevention Tips

A rodent problem is nothing to shrug off. Mice can cause damage throughout a home, whether you can see it or not. Furthermore, mice can carry disease and contaminate your home.

Pest Infestation Problem Solutions

If you've noticed pest droppings, you may have uninvited guests in your home.

The common house mouse will be no larger than two inches long, not including the tail. These little guys may look harmless but can cause a host of problems. For example, mice spread airborne allergens that can exacerbate respiratory problems like asthma. Mice are associated with the spread of a virus with a mortality rate of fifty-percent – the Hantavirus.

There are a variety of extermination methods available for ridding yourself of a pest problem. Here are a few for you to consider:

  • Poisoning is an effective method wherein the mouse will take poison bait back to the nest and shares it with the others. The poison will eventually exterminate the mice but in homes with children or pets, you may not want to use this method. Another problem, the mouse may die in a place where you cannot remove it, and an odor may exist while it decomposes.
  • Snap traps are the most identifiable types of mouse extermination. The trap is spring-loaded and activates as the mouse takes the bait, tripping the switch. Glue traps are popular with those who don’t necessarily want to see the mouse killed. The board is coated with extremely sticky glue that snares any mouse that steps on it. Ultimately, the mouse dies in these traps as well.
  • Live traps are used by homeowners that would like to preserve the mouse alive and simply relocate them far away from the home. The trap has a door that will trap the mouse inside.

After ridding your home of these vermin, be sure to thoroughly clean areas with bleach and shampoo carpets. Examine your home for entry points and cover them up so the little guys don’t make it back.
